Medical Emergency Fund for Birdie
Living her life on a chain, with a carabiner pierced through her neck. The sweet golden retriever mix didn’t know much about love or human companionship.
Fortunately, a concerned member of the public noticed Birdie’s suffering and reached out for help. An Animal Protection Officer was sent to check on the four-year-old dog. Despite everything she’d endured, Birdie wagged her tail at her rescuer; thankful help had arrived. She was immediately taken to an animal hospital where her vet team found the shocking injury. Beneath her heavy coat, the carabiner attaching the chain she was on had painfully punctured through the skin of her neck. The pain as it moved and pulled on the chain must have been excruciating. Her medical team noticed a strong odor coming from her wound. She was given medication to manage her pain and to treat the growing infection. Birdie needed emergency surgery to remove the embedded metal, clean the wound, and stitch it closed. This happy-go-lucky dog is now resting comfortably with the help of her medications, and in the coming weeks, she’ll have her stitches removed — another step in her journey toward healing from her past.
Now healing at a BC SPCA animal centre, Birdie is making up for lost time. She follows staff like a little shadow, soaking up every bit of affection she can. She’ll do almost anything for a tasty treat and is quickly learning her basic manners. But more than anything, Birdie simply wants to be close to those who show her kindness. For her, every loving pet is proof that her days of loneliness are finally behind her. With your loving kindness, you can be there for Birdie every step of the way.
Personal updates for Birdie will be provided to anyone who donates to her care.
*Goal includes: Surgery, re-check, medications, and daily care for Birdie until she is ready for adoption. If the funds raised goes beyond the needs of this loving dog, your kindness will carry forward to help the next animal in urgent need of life-saving medical care.
