Medical Emergency Fund for Reginald
A sweet mum and her ten tiny puppies arrived at the BC SPCA after their guardian could no longer care for them. At just three days old, and with no proper carrier to transport them, the babies were tucked inside a purse; the team sprang into action to make sure this family was safe and warm.
As each pup was carefully examined, the care team noticed that one of the young ones was facing a serious medical challenge and needed extra attention. When Reginald opened his eyes for the very first time, one looked cloudy and blistered. He was rushed to the animal hospital where he was examined by a vet as well as a specialist. They determined the likely cause was a congenital defect or a scratch that damaged his eye. Reginald was started on eye drops five times a day, with antibiotics to prevent infection, and pain medication to keep him comfortable. To protect him from further injury, the pups were separated into two pens, with his mom by his side every step of the way to ensure he’s fed, warm, and loved. At his most recent checkup, there was some improvement in the damaged eye, but the blistering hadn’t gone down. Reginald likely will never have vision in that eye, and for his long-term comfort, his specialist recommends surgery to remove it once he’s big and strong enough.
Despite his eyes not being in the best shape, his legs certainly are! Reggie is the fastest pup in the litter and is always first to greet visitors with his playful energy. His little personality is still developing, but this boy is definitely full of joy and heart! With your loving compassion, this precious pup will receive the special care he needs to heal.
Personal updates for Reginald will be provided to anyone who donates to his care.
*Goal includes: Eye removal surgery, medications, neuter surgery, and daily care for Reginald until he is ready for adoption. If the funds raised goes beyond the needs of this puppy, your kindness will carry forward to help the next animal in urgent need of life-saving medical care.
