Medical Emergency Fund for Whisky

As wildfires continue to keep communities across the province on high alert, animals are being caught in the devastation too. Some arrive at the BC SPCA with their families who are seeking emergency shelter. Others are found frightened, injured, and alone. This was the case for poor Whisky.

Amid the smoke and flames, a little black ball of fluff was found with severe burns covering the bottoms of his feet. His kind rescuer was working behind fire lines when they discovered the badly injured cat. They gently scooped him up and rushed him to a veterinary hospital, where he could finally find safety. Whisky was examined immediately. His paw pads were severely burned, and he was dehydrated and suffering from a painful ear mite infestation. His medical team started him on pain medication, fluids, ear mite treatment, and a careful refeeding plan to help his weakened body recover. Whisky was sedated so they could carefully clean and wrap his wounded paws.

Once he was strong enough, Whisky moved into a foster home with a member of his veterinary team. Now, this brave boy has the warmth and love of a home to help him recover fully. His foster family were the ones to lovingly named him Whisky. A fitting name for a little survivor whose singed whiskers have become his most endearing feature. He has bonded closely with his foster dad, following him from room to room and meowing for attention. He loves curling up on the couch, watching the world through the window, and happily accepting plenty of treats as a reward for his patience during bandage changes.
