Medical Emergency Fund for Rupert

As Rupert walked through BC SPCA animal centre doors, each step came with a new wave of discomfort from his inflamed, irritable skin. It was clear he had been struggling for a long time, yet his eyes were still full of life.

Rupert needs extensive medical care to overcome his pain. Under the gentle care of his medical team, blood was drawn for testing, and his body was carefully examined. Rupert is suffering from mange, and his hairless, dry, inflamed skin needs serious attention. He also has wounds on his back, likely from trying to scratch himself to relieve his discomfort. His bloodwork shows he’s dealing with anemia too. Everything about his body is making poor Rupert uncomfortable, from his overgrown nails to his broken tooth and painful ear infection. He’s also thinner than he should be.

Rupert is now on antibiotics, antiparasitic medication, and pain relief. He needs a warm bath every few days using a medicated shampoo to treat his skin. His ears need a special solution to flush and clean them, along with ear drops morning and night. With gentle care, medication, and love, Rupert is beginning to find relief.

With no fur to keep him warm, this sweetheart loves being wrapped up in soft blankets. He has a cozy jacket for his walks and absolutely loves spending time outdoors sniffing and exploring. When it’s time for his medications (or even bath time), he has been a perfect boy, patiently accepting the care he seems to know he needs. As his skin slowly heals and he gains more weight with the help of a special feeding plan, his medical team will start discussing oral surgery to remove his broken tooth. Until then, Rupert is soaking up all the love and comfort he can in his foster home.
