Medical Emergency Fund for Elvira

At just eight-months-old, Elvira came to us with a mouth full of missing and broken teeth, an alarming and unusual sight for a cat not even a year old. It was clear she was in pain, and something more serious was going on.

Once under medical care, Elvira was started on pain medication as she awaited an oral surgery to remove broken teeth and a spay. While in for her surgery, her medical team soon discovered her oral condition was far worse than anticipated. X-rays revealed Elvira’s teeth were extremely weak and appeared hollow. A specialist determined that she has a rare condition that causes fragile, deteriorating teeth and can affect bone strength. Thankfully, imaging shows only Elvira’s teeth are affected. Another oral surgery with a specialist was required to remove all the remaining teeth. On top of that, Elvira experienced urinary issues, requiring testing, medications, and follow-up care. She’ll need a few more rechecks in the coming weeks and months to ensure she’s healing properly.

When Elvira first arrived, she was timid, and understandably overwhelmed. But even in her uncertainty, there was a sweetness, something a devoted volunteer noticed right away. Lucky for Elvira, that volunteer brought her home to receive the extra special care and attention she needs. The comfort of her foster home has helped Elvira to feel at ease, and blossom into a gentle, affectionate companion.
