Medical Emergency Fund for Bannock

While on shift, two CN railway workers found Bannock laying on the tracks in the railyard. Struggling in pain, they knew they needed to get her urgent help.

Bannock’s caring rescuers brought her directly to the BC SPCA where she could be stabilized before being transferred to an emergency vet. Once under the care of her medical team, they carefully looked the severely injured dog over. Her eye hemorrhaged from trauma, an abrasion under her nose, lacerations, fractured teeth, a missing tail, and nerve damage to her front paw all suggest Bannock was struck by a moving train while on the tracks. She was booked in for surgery to remove the damaged end of her tail, injured foot and broken tooth. Because she has lost all feeling in her front paw, the biggest risk is her developing painful sores and future wounds from her foot constantly dragging along the ground. Her vet team wants to give Bannock the best chance possible at a comfortable, pain-free future.

As a mix of herding breeds, we know Bannock is highly intelligent and will need a lot of simulation once she has recovered. This makes her calm patience even more impressive. It’s as if she understands that she needs to rest her body so it can heal. She’ll remain on strict kennel rest until her surgery next week.

Bannock may not be spending the holiday season in the warmth of a home, but thankfully she is safe and receiving the specialized care her body needs right now. If you’d like to send her a message of love and support, please make a caring contribution towards her treatments and surgery today. You’ll help her start the new year feeling happier and healthier.

Personal updates for Bannock will be provided to anyone who donates to her care.

*Goal includes: Foot and tail amputations, oral surgery, medications, spay surgery and daily care for Bannock until she is ready for adoption. If the funds raised goes beyond the needs of this loving dog, your kindness will carry forward to help the next animal in urgent need of life-saving medical care.
