Medical Emergency Fund for Lesser Snow Goose

A cruel pellet gunshot left this Lesser Snow Goose injured and vulnerable—until it found safety at Wild ARC.

On intake, the goose was thin, dehydrated, and suffering from two pellet wounds to the neck. X-rays revealed one of the pellets was still inside, and had migrated from the goose’s neck to its body. Luckily, it did not damage any vital organs or major muscle groups. Because of its position just beneath the skin, wildlife rehabilitators determined it was safest to leave the pellet in place to avoid the significant stress and risk of surgery. Blood tests were conducted to check for lead exposure; while levels were elevated on arrival, follow-up testing showed they were steadily decreasing and did not require medical intervention. The Lesser Snow Goose is receiving wound care and medications to help them heal. The team is monitoring them closely, tracking their healing progress, providing a special diet, and ensuring access to a clean pool for essential water therapy.

The goose will remain in care for another few weeks, with wildlife rehabilitators keeping a close eye on the injury as it heals. With continued monitoring and supportive care we are optimistic that this resilient goose will make a successful return to their natural habitat. Could you share your kindness today to help this snow goose heal and return to its wild home?
